Texas RioGrande Legal Aid (TRLA) seeks an Education Staff Attorney to represent students and families in education issues across the TRLA service areas. TRLA’s Education Team focuses on priority legal problems that impact low-income students including: school enrollment, homeless student rights and services, priority student discipline and special education cases, and harassment and discrimination cases, including Title IX sexual assault.
Education Team staff attorneys work closely with members of other practice areas including Juvenile Justice, Foster Youth, Reentry, Civil Rights, and Services for Survivors of Sexual Assault providing clients holistic services. Team members handle cases from throughout TRLA’s service area in both an administrative setting and court litigation and must be willing to travel.
Qualifications and Preferences:
TRLA is seeking candidates who are committed to providing justice for those who need it most. A successful candidate has enthusiasm for direct client services and litigation. The candidate must be highly organized and have strong written and oral advocacy skills, as well as the ability to work collaboratively with non-attorneys, be self-motivated, and be able to work independently.
Must be licensed to practice law in Texas or willing to take the next available Texas bar exam.
Written and oral fluency in the Spanish language highly preferred.
Compensation and Benefits:
Salary is commensurate with experience and includes an excellent fringe benefits package, including law school loan repayment, generous paid leave, healthcare insurance, a retirement plan, and training & travel stipends.
