Extra SNAP (Food Stamps) Benefits during COVID-19

WHO IS ELIGIBLE?

  • Current recipients & eligible households who apply

  • More people are eligible today than before

  • APPLY if you were previously denied or not eligible before the pandemic

INCOME LIMITS

In most cases, your household must meet both the gross and net income limits described below (Monthly Income Limits) or you are not eligible for SNAP and cannot receive benefits. A household with an elderly or disabled person only has to meet the net income limit.

  • Gross Income means a household’s total, non-excluded income, before any deductions have been made.

  • Net Income means gross income minus allowable deductions.

WORK REQUIREMENTS HAVE BEEN REINSTATED

If you are age 16 – 59 and able to work, you will probably need to meet the general work requirements to get SNAP benefits.

EXEMPTIONS TO WORK REQUIREMENTS INCLUDE (BUT AREN’T LIMITED TO):

  • unavailability of care for children ages 6 through 11;

  • work demands or conditions that make continued employment unreasonable;

  • unavailability of transportation;

  • illness of self or another household member;

  • household emergency; or

  • employment is unsuitable if degree of risk to health and safety is unreasonable.
